Starting at Queens Park and following a course dictated by the Metro Police, one that demanded and received serious wind problems, the race did not produce exceptional times. Dave Cannon of England won in 2:16:54 but the big race prize went to the first Canadian, Tom Howard of BC, who finished second in 2:19:51. Pat Donaghey of Scarborough easily defeated the women's field in an exceptional time of 2:49:47 in spite of the wind. The reported starting filed of 1500 was rediced to 862 finishers, some drop-outs due to the conditions and some to the 4:30 official cut-off time.
