Come out and support the Terry Fox Run which will retrace the steps that Terry took back in 1980 down Highway 17 East onto Black Road and up to 17 North. Mayor John Rosewell, who is fighting cancer, will kick off the run at the Moose Lodge on Trunk Road. The Boston Marathon runners headed by Nathan Mudge will be the celebrity runners this year and various high school groups will work the water stations. A Single Dream, A World of Difference is this year's motto.

As a runner I am sure you can appreciate the struggles that Terry faced on his Marathon of Hope. He ran 4,675 kilometers to reach Sault Ste Marie. Our mission is to get 4,675 runners, walkers and wheelers to participate this year. A participant will be randomly selected from all the participants and awarded a hand draw sketch of Terry by Janice Catania.

The run begins with registration and a warm-up in the Moose Lodge parking lot between 8:00 and 9:00 am on Sunday September 14.

The Major will kick off the race at 9:00 am. Anyone who cannot walk, run, or wheel is encouraged to volunteer!

The Trail Trot is scheduled for September 20. Online registration is now available. More information.

Group run on September 6 from Riuniti

From my notes here at the desk it looks like we will have a busy fall ahead of us. I would like to congratulate Jocelyn and Mike for their completion of the Half Ironman Duathlon last weekend in Ottawa. For those who aren’t familiar with this event it ends just before insanity sets in, and I am only speculating.

I expect there will be lots of local runners heading to Mackinaw for the 8 miler. The Sault is usually well represented at this event, and why not, it’s not very often you find a flat race in these parts. For those heading to Mackinaw have fun and enjoy the fudge!

A reminder that Trail Trot and the Kinross Correctional Facility Marathon and Half Marathon are taking place on September 20. To register for Kinross, information must get to Ross Mervin by Friday morning. Further details on times and registration is on the Sault Stryders website.

This week I am trying to keep the run relatively flat so here goes.

Mini Run - Leave Riuniti and head east down 4th Line, turn at Landslide Road and Return – 6.5 km

Midi Run – Same as Mini Run, but continue west on 4th to Old Goulais Bay Rd, turn right on Third Line the right on Peoples. Return to Riuniti on 4th – 14.5 km

Maxi Run – Again this week, this run is for those training for a fall marathon. When the Midi Run goes east on 4th back to Riuniti turn left and go west to Allen’s Side Road, right on Avery then Left on Maki. Go left on Third Line and the right on Palamino then left on Allen’s Side Road again and right on Third Line. Go left on Moss and return to Riuniti – 29.4 km

See you ate Riuniti Saturday at 8 am.

Nathan
